The museums and galleries are also in this part of the city. The great Singapore Art Museum, along with the Singapore History Museum are sandwiched into the Colonial core of Singapore. Also around is the Asian Civilisations Museum, and the famous Raffles Hotel, which was called after Sir Stamford Raffles who first arrived here with the Union Jack back in 1819. There is actually a museum on the third floor of the hotel that tells the story.
The Singapore River is where all of Singapore's prosperity originated. It has six beautiful bridges across the river, ranging from the beautiful Anderson Bridge to simpler bridges. The Boat Quay is a great place to dine and hang out in the many cafes and restaurants around here. The food is delicious and the shopping area is very good. There is always a carnival atmosphere in the air. On Sundays there is a flea market that offers some great bargains and souvenirs that you will love to bring home with you. Lots of old treasures and collectibles and curios make this market a must see attraction. The main dining and drinking areas along the river would be at Riverside Point, Robertson Quay and the Riverside Village.
