Singapore offers the visitor a melting pot of ethnic cuisine at really great prices and usually most nights one can find something to eat up till 5 in the morning. Because of the multi racial society around Singapore, the variety of food in the city is amazing.
Many of the local citizens would dine in the many neighbourhood coffee shops and the hawker centres like the Maxwell Road Food Market, which offers fine tasting food at very reasonable prices. A great coffee shop by the name of S-11 is open 24 hours and serves up some fine local cuisine. The student types hang out here. For a more Chinese meal, head to Chin Chin, where you will be served up the best chicken rice in Singapore. The Hill Street Food Centre is another great food hall with great prices. The Newton Circus Food Centre is also a popular area with the locals. Places on the fringe of the city to check out would be Bedok and Tampines.
Most shopping malls would have and underground or basement food court. These basement food courts would not be as cheap as the local coffee shops and hawker centres, but have fine decor and also fine cuisine. The Marketplace at Water Court in Raffles City is designed for the more sophisticated crowd. Also Scotts Picnic is very popular and is a standard type of food court with a great mix of ethnic cuisine on the menu.
